3 Things you Can Change to Make you Happier at Work Today-SERIOUSLY!

I started my first business so that I could essentially do, say and wear whatever I wanted at work and to also control the amount of money I make. With that being said I make sure that everything related to my work life is awesome and I try and do the same for my employees as well. My office dress code policy is Casual yet Stylish (no joke I put this on all my ads for new employees), music is always playing at the office and I allow pets at work. I figure that you spend more time at work than you do at home, so if anything THIS is the place or part of your life that really deserves a lot of attention and effort. Why do people go through their work days like zombies? Why don’t people make changes (even small ones) at their office? When I was at my corporate job, I made sure that the things I cared about were on my desk and that even though I’d dress professionally (I used to wear suits everyday-ick!) I would still infused my own personal style into it.

My point of all of this is I want to know what YOU are doing to add your own style, vibe etc. into your work life. If you’re not really sure where to start or what you can do so that you’re bosses don’t get mad, here are a few quick tips and things that I do to make my work life more ME friendly.

*My favorite magazines, could re-read a million times!

1. Find a morning routine that you love

I used to get out of bed the latest I could before possibly being late into work and would rush to get ready and run out the door. I was always 5-10 minutes early but also very crazed to get there. That’s just plain miserable! Now I have am morning routine I LOVE and its because I get up earlier than I need to and still make it to the office on time. My routine? Wake up, shower, etc. then I get my favorite jasmine tea from Coffee Bean, head into the office and enjoy the first 30 mins browsing/reading through my favorite blogs or magazines. Sometimes I’ll make the same tea at home and do my reading in pajamas then head off. It really starts each day with my feeling in control and being happy.

2. Love your workspace

Its really that simple. I know you don’t own the office you work in and you’re most likely just at a desk or a cubicle but there ARE things you can do. That’s really all I ever talk about (just search the site for DIY, How-to’s etc.) and its the easiest, most cost effective way of changing the vibe at work and loving your actual workspace. I don’t mean go crazy at the Hello Kitty store but make some changes and updates to your desk like office supplies in your favorite color, file folders in a pretty print or even go as far as buying accessories and decorating part of your office space. At the end of the day if you were to leave your job, you’d just take everything with you. Its a cheap investment and well worth it.

3. Love what you wear

*My NEW version of a suit/work wear

I know offices have dress codes and for those that don’t-shame on you. Here’s the thing, I don’t think everyone needs to dress in suits, I actually can’t stand suits myself-BUT if your office doesn’t have a dress code you end up having people in the office in pretty much pajamas. You should care what you look like at work and on the go, regardless of what your job is. We need to face the fact that we live in a world filled with judgment and assumptions so whether you want to believe it or not, what you wear really matters. I wear comfortable yet stylish work wear with a twist. I prefer it though I don’t need to wear nicer clothing and I don’t need to be in heels(I am the boss after all) but I do it because I take pride in what I wear. Also, when I was required to wear suits I would dress them up as much as I could with either my favorite necklace or a shade of nail polish I love or I would do something really different with my hair. The point is, I would add my own twist so that I felt like it was still ME under that suit.

*My awesome heels from Zara, who says your heels can’t have spikes?

If you’re not 100% happy every day you get up to go to work, you should try at least one of the things I’ve mentioned. It’ll make a difference and you’ll thank me, trust me on that :) .

I do want to know if any of you are currently doing anything similar to what I mentioned? Would LOVE to hear about it, leave a comment and share.
