Infuse the Feeling of Home into your Workspace

When I sit down with a client or an interview for an office profile, I always ask the person what their home looks like. I’ll ask what kind of design style, furniture, accessories and colors do they find around their home. I came to find that most people like to have similar pieces, styles or colors that they have at home, in their workspace as well. So how do you infuse the feeling of home into your workspace? Start by answering the following questions:

In my home most of my furniture is from _______________

At home I love the color(s) ______________

The things that make me smile at home are __________________

If I could take a piece of furniture or an accessory from home and bring it to work it would be ________________

My walls at home are mostly covered in ___________(art, color paint, just plain white, etc.)

Those five questions should be a great start into what you like at home and what you can bring in. To help give you guys a better idea; I’ve answered them below with examples of how I’ve brought them into my office.

Your Smartphone Has Been Stolen – Now What Do You Do?

It’s something that most of us who have an iPhone or Android will think about. What if my phone is stolen? Do we fork out another $400-$800 for a new one or downgrade to a “free” phone from our carrier? Cry our eyes out and just move on? You can’t prevent your phone from being stolen but you can prepare and make sure you can track it if it is stolen.

Why I think this app is great:

Track your phone whether its lost or stolen
Lock your phone and keep others away from private data
Backup and restore photos
Sound a loud alarm that will easily attract attention to where your phone might be

PDF Escape – Your solution for editing and filling out PDF’s without having to print them.

I came across PDF escape when I had to send a signed PDF back to one of our vendors. I have a printer + scanner combo but the scanner doesn’t work with Mac so I thought it was time to find a solution for those of us who don’t have scanners or fax machines by our sides.

PDF Escape is a FANTASTIC solution. You don’t need to register to get started and uploading your PDF is a breeze. Once your PDF is uploaded, you can choose to do what you want with it from there. You can choose what page you want to work on and then select what you’d like to do like whiteout, add an image, add lines or insert text.

Problems with your Office Neighbors? Here’s what you should and shouldn’t do!

As you know, we recently moved into a new office space. I love the building, the space and the location but when it comes to one of my neighbors, the love is not quite there. I know that this can easily be a common problem amongst other business owners like myself and the question is: How do you handle a problematic neighbor?

Here’s the situation:

The parking spaces at the office are pretty small and extra spaces are non-existent. We have assigned spaces but “some” people choose to park in whatever space they like and “some” people also like to park directly on the line so that you can’t even open the door of your car, leave you rude notes, knock on your door to tell you that “they’d” prefer if we park in another spot because it’s hard for them to park when we are next to them. Reminder, these are our assigned parking spots, for our office only.

A constant nuisance and worry about confrontations that I do not need to deal with has me tired of the situation entirely. You can imagine how utterly frustrating that can be especially when it should be the last thing I should worry about in my workday. It also is, in my opinion, quite juvenile. So, while I would LOVE to handle the situation one-way, what is the appropriate way to handle this?

The Little Printer that Could!

I love technology, I mean REALLY love technology. I feel like every day something new comes out that makes my life easier. You can imagine how delighted I was to come across this Little Printer:

With the Little Printer, you can print directly from your iPhone or Android to print out to-dos, memos, calendars, notes or anything else you’d like to have a hard copy of. You can even subscribe to different news headlines and have them print automatically each morning, keeping your well informed with your morning coffee. What I love about this printer is the capacity to use to print receipts for customers if you do a pop-up shop or some kind of event. Most credit card apps send an email receipt directly to customers but for those that want a hardcopy, this is the perfect solution.

A Keyboard Case for your iPad

If you’re like me, then business takes you constantly on the go. Most of us “on the go” workers have gadgets that help and we have accessories that help our gadgets. I have the iPad and though I love to work on it and take it with me when I travel, I find that typing anything past an email address is near impossible. I end up holding the iPad like I do my iPhone and it still doesn’t allow me to type the way I’d like. Fortunately for me, and all of you, Zagg has an iPad case that not only protects your iPad, but it’s a keyboard too.
