Gorgeous “Closet Office”

May 20, 2011

Describe your office space to us: The office was created inside our Master Bedroom closet.  The room actually contained two side by side closets, so we condensed our clothing and accessories to one side, and created the office in the other.  Our home is only 1200 square feet on the main living level, so it was important for us to get creative when creating a work space solution.  We started out by removing a section of the existing shelving, painting the interior walls, adding pretty wallpaper, installing the desk out of painted MDF, installing an electrical outlet, and then topping off the project by adding the storage and accessories to create an extremely functional office space!

Where did the inspiration for your office space design come from? I actually had seen a closet office online somewhere which sparked the entire idea.  Majority of my ideas and inspiration have come from the creativeness I have found in others online.

What is your favorite part/design of your office space and why? i.e. the arched window in the front office, etc. Absolutely the wallpaper.  It takes away from the fact that the office is in a closet, and makes it feel more like a room.  It gives it a lovely personality and pattern!

Do you feel that having a well designed and inspiring office has changed the way you (and your employees) work? I am such a believer that one can be more productive when they love their environment and surroundings.  Now that I have such a great place to sit down to blog, craft, journal, I find myself wanting to do it more often.  It’s my happy place.  I don’t feel like I am ever working while utilizing the office space!

Tell us about your company and what it means to you to have a well-designed office space. I actually run a full time organizing blog {http://iheartorganizing.blogspot.com/} along with an Etsy shop {http://www.etsy.com/shop/IHeartOrganizing?ref=seller_info}, which requires many hours logged on the laptop, or crafting up labels and printables.  Before we created our closet office, I was trying to use our couch or kitchen table as a place to complete my work and I was far less productive.  The new space gives me my own zone to step away from our busy family life and focus on my work.  It suites my personality, yet everything I need is right at my fingertips at all times so I can get so much more accomplished each time I am there
