Describe your office space to us
We wanted the JPR offices on both coasts to reflect the fun, modern way in which we approach our business. To us, our surroundings are incredibly important – I mean, we spend more time in the office than nearly anywhere else – so we wanted to create a space that was inviting, creative and that reflected our team and brand.
We used our signature color, a rich hot pink, as the basis for the design and added accent colors of white and black to set it off. Using modern, clean lines for our furnishings and accessories, the look is feminine, modern and clean. We are fortunate that our offices (in San Diego) have a ton of natural light pouring in from floor to ceiling windows that overlook gorgeous San Diego Bay and downtown. That light really makes the colors pop, creating a welcoming, comfortable environment that is happy. In NYC, because space is at such a premium, we had to get creative and find ways to embed our brand into the small amount of space we had. Our offices have since been dubbed “The Pink Palace” in San Diego and “The Pink Pod” in NYC.
Where did the inspiration for your office space design come from?
When we first started our agency back in 2004, we were literally working out of our homes and we wanted to create a “mark” in terms of a logo that would grow with us and become well recognized and immediately associated with our business. We chose the “J” for personal reasons and when we were discussing our signature colors, hot pink was the hands down favorite. We felt it reflected our personalities and approach. As an inside joke, we also said that it would serve as a “test” of sorts – anyone turned off by the hot pink was probably not a client we wanted to work with – and the funny thing is, for the most part, that has been 100% true. The offices became an extension of our “hot pink” brand and we wanted to carry that through in all aspects of our design. It has even evolved further into our company tag line: “Don’t Let the Pink Fool You.” Meaning, although we are an office of all women and the walls are hot pink, we are all business and take what we do very seriously. We just like to have fun while doing it.
What is your favorite part/design of your office space and why?
We have a stairway that leads up to the reception area in our San Diego offices. While we were able to be creative in terms of being cost conscious while decorating the majority of the space, Jamie and I decided to splurge on a “wow” piece for the entry, a huge Moooi pendant lamp that hangs over the stairway. To us, it’s fun, looks cool and also symbolizes one of our first big “fun” purchases. In our NYC office, the team was so creative in transforming a small space into such a cool, unique area. They used a black and white Damask print wall paper to really make the “Pod” seem so inviting and chic. It truly sets off the hot pink accents and makes what would otherwise be a typical “cubical” space special and inviting to work in and visit.
Do you feel that having a well designed and inspiring office has changed the way you and your employees work?
Absolutely. The environment you work in is so important and Jamie, Sarah and I have put a lot of time and effort into creating a space that we WANT to come to. It’s light, fun and stylish.
Tell us about your company and what it means to you to have a well-designed office space.
For us, we approach our office space as an extension of our brand. We’ve worked hard from the very early days as a company to create an identity for ourselves and the work we do. Starting with our logo and signature color, we built upon it from there and extended it into our space. In our business, we are responsible for how consumers and media perceive our clients brands and it is our responsibility to make sure those brands are accurately represented. We want the same to be true for our own brand. We’ve worked hard to establish ourselves and set ourselves apart in the PR world. When we have clients walk into our offices (which they have) and comment on our “brand consistency” because we took the time to have pink hand soap in our bathrooms and stylish water glasses set up for our meeting, that means something to us and reflects our attention to detail and passion for what we do. We are proud to be pink!

Oh my gosh!!!! Love, love, love this look. I want this for my office. Never considered painting the walls in my home office this shade of pink. It is bold, yet soft. This pink definitely inspires one for creative thinking.

This week’s amazing office from @jprpublicity http://theofficestylist.com/j-public-rel…
@officestylist thank you so much for featuring @jprpublicity San Diego and NYC offices love your blog!
It’s not a bad design, I would just feel bad for any guy who would ever work at this office, which is less the pink and more the rhinestone mice. But since it’s an office of all women, I guess the uber-feminist style is okay, but it does feel a bit like the female equivalent of a bunch of guys in a male only office putting up nude calenders.
