Life at Work with America’s Shoe Expert
Did you ever wonder what life at work for a shoe expert would be? We certainly did and were honored to find that our friend and America’s Shoe Expert, Meghan Cleary, was kind enough to let us enter her working world.
Interviewed by Sayeh, the Office Stylist herself
Describe your typical workday
Meghan Cleary: I try to get up around 6:30 am if I am in LA so I can catch the east coast already up and working. I usually take some time with a cup of tea and a few cuddles with my dog Griffin (honorary CEO of Miss Meghan Media) and have some breakfast while scanning the headlines and checking FB. I usually try to reserve the mornings for projects or things I need to have dedicated time on and then return emails etc in the afternoon. I usually make a super simple lunch, hit the emails in the afternoon then break around 5 or 6 to take a long walk with my dog, have an early din and then work a few more hours unless I am going to an event. Red Carpet weeks are totally different — then I am running around pulling product for my segments and trying to find the right dress to wear!! And when I am in New York my days are usually a lot more hectic — usually booked with meetings and designing my shoe line with my manufacturer in the showroom and tons of events at night.
If you could work anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
MC: I’d love to be able to work near the beach — some kind of live-work space where it opened up to the beach and ocean on one side and trees on the other. I think that exists somewhere!!
How would you describe your workspace
MC: Very simple ! I got a big table from IKEA that I love and spray painted it glossy white. I have a grey basket on it with all my cords and ipods and etc, my laptop and then my weekly calendar and all my index cards and thats it!
Your favorite thing about your workspace
MC: Space — I have been really digging clean space over having a bunch of things around. I also have a huge window over my desk which I love. LA sky is always beautiful.
What is one “work item” you can’t live without (could be your planner, laptop, iphone, ipad, etc)?
MC: My crackberry, for sure. (Blackberry)
If you could switch careers for a day, what would you do?
MC: Gosh that’s a hard one. I love what I do! If I had to say some other thing maybe it would be being paid to report on luxury hotels and spas around the world. Or beauty products. I am addicted to beauty products!!
