Describe your office space to us.
Our office is spacious and airy, with a modern feel. Exposed brick walls, clean lines, and high ceilings. Entering the building through out outdoor courtyard, home to an earthy sanctuary, is a great start to any day. Inside sliding glass windows allow for lots of natural light blending the role between outdoor and indoor. It’s an architectural piece of art. Prior to us moving into the space it was restored by Architect Ligon B Flynn.
Where did the inspiration for your office space design come from?
The inspiration for our office space’s interior design comes from a host of our favorite places: our own personal histories, our favorite shops like Anthropologie, CB2, and organized minimalism. Our overall artwork reflects our style with Holga cameras hanging from the walls amidst a collection of favorite gig posters, art pieces that reflect our style, and anything else we find that brings a smile to our face.
What is your favorite part/design of your office space and why?
The most favorite aspect of our office is the architectural design that inspires our creativity. The structure is full of history. Built originally as an antebellum livery stable, our offices were converted in the 1980′s from complete ruin to a secret garden and office space by the late Ligon B. Flynn. This space served as offices for Ligon’s architectural firm until his passing in late 2010. The building is now occupied by Millie Holloman Photography and Salt Harbor Designs, and the outdoor urban garden and first floor are rented out for weddings, private parties, and events. The top floor is a bustling creative loft studio filled with all of the things that inspire us to work and play. Today, the garden is what brings the most attention to our space from the foot traffic on 2nd Street. Ligon’s core design philosophy included “every building must have a garden.” Our garden? It’s not quite like anything we had ever seen. A secret garden hidden within the walls of a historic downtown, rich with history and design yet a blank slate for each of our new creations.
Do you feel that having a well designed and inspiring office has changed the way you and your employees work?
We definitely do believe a well designed office changes the way we work. A well designed space means an organized business with the creative elements that inspire us to work better. When life is clean and orderly, we feel less stressed with more ability to dream and create. When you love the space you work in, it feels less like work and more like the perfect life, a place you always want to be. Our best ideas have been birthed here and we’ve photographed some of our most creative sessions within these walls. We are beyond blessed to work here with an uptown vibe amidst a place that feels so much like home.
If you could use one word to describe the feel of the office space, what would it be?
Only one word? It’s a huge space full of wonder so Its very hard to sum it up in just one word, it’s full of diverse qualities. It is a clean, modern, open, metropolitan environment that merges indoors and outdoors.
Tell us about your company and what it means to you to have a well-designed office space.
We are a photography and design studio, so we need a space that is inspiring and breeds creativity. We wanted our space itself to feel like a work of art. As photographers we love to take photos in natural light, and this building offers that with its large windows, sliding doors, and sky lights. We also love crisp, clean lines, and this building has it all.
To leave you with some words from Ligon himself regarding Architecture: ”The single most precious thing to have is a breeze. Its free. I wanted there to always be a breeze.” In our building, on a beautiful spring day, we always have a breeze blowing through.
