Scient Corporation
Calling this space well-designed doesn’t do it justice. This is something beyond just great design, and we’re thrilled we got to hear from the architect behind this gorgeous space.
Bill from William Green & Associates answered the following questions about his commercial interior design project for New York, NY-based company Scient Corporation.
The Office Stylist: Where did the inspiration for your office come from?
Bill: Our inspiration came from understanding the nature of our client’s business. In any design project, it is essential to understand what the client is really about and what makes them tick. We find that the most remarkable, impressive design projects come as a result of this understanding.
TOS: What is your favorite part/design of your office space and why?
Bill: Our favorite aspect of the design of the office is the sense of physical movement that we have created. The “Scient” sign is curved and the word “Scient” is repeated throughout, a shadow cast upon the back panels, evoking a quality of transformation. Throughout the office, partitions are curved and strategically placed in order to create an organic, lively, yet graceful interior. This notion of movement was inspired by the nature of the business which is in a continuous state of adaptation and progress. Our design is meant to echo Scient’s dedication to representing the cutting edge of technology.
TOS: Do you feel that having a well-designed and inspiring office has changed the way that you and your employees work?
Bill: Without even knowing the specific details that make Scient an efficient, organized and technologically adaptive office, anyone who enters the office is immediately affected by the fabulous aesthetic environment that we have created. Now, Scient is a fun, “cool” place to work. Its look attracts that type of employee, and as a result, the upbeat, fresh atmosphere permeates the office, affecting the culture of the office and therefore, the quality of their service to their clients.
TOS: Tell us about your company and what it means to you to have a well-designed office space.
Bill: A well-designed office space, as well as a well-designed residential space, meets two basic design principles: form and function. The space must function efficiently and be able to adapt and thrive over time. In addition, the space must be visually appealing to the individuals who occupy it and make a positive impact upon those who experience it. A happy office means a happy client.
